Skinjectables® Is Your Juvederm Ultra XC® and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC® Destination In Tucson, Arizona
Both are injectable clear gels composed of hyaluronic acid and contain small amounts of lidocaine, a local anesthetic. Juvederm Ultra XC® is injected into areas of the face where finer correction is desired- to enhance lips (off-label use) or correct lip lines, to soften lines between the nose and mouth or laugh lines for example. Juvederm Ultra Plus XC® is utilized in areas of the face where deeper correction is needed such as in the cheeks or in deeper folds. The hyaluronic acid particles in Juvederm Ultra XC® are smaller than those in Juvederm Ultra Plus XC® and thus each filler is chosen based upon the area of the face and level of correction necessary. The filler substance, hyaluronic acid, is naturally occurring in the human body. In the skin, it softens lines by holding in water, plumping up wrinkles and folds by temporarily adding volume to give a smoother appearance.. The lidocaine reduces the discomfort and bruising associated with injections into the skin.
Most patients need 1-2 treatments consisting of 1-4 syringes depending on the facial area to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. The results usually last about 6 months to 1 year, with a booster treatment at about 4-6 months recommended. This booster treatment generally increases the overall longevity of the filler and requires approximately half of the initial dose of filler used (1-2 syringes normal).
What are possible side effects?
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and last 7 days or less. The most common side effects include temporary injection-site reactions such as: redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. Although unlikely especially when following aseptic injection technique, there is a risk of infection. The product should not be used in patients who have multiple severe allergies to substances resulting in anaphylaxis, in those with allergies to lidocaine or Gram-positive bacterial proteins as Juvederm Ultra XC® and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC® are derived from bacteria.
What is involved in your treatment?
After consulting with one of Skinjectable’s® expertly trained medical professionals and deciding that Juvederm Ultra XC® or Juvederm Ultra Plus XC® is right for you, the skin at the treatment site will be properly cleansed with an antiseptic. A topical numbing cream that contains lidocaine will be applied to the area for 20-30 minutes to increase comfort during your procedure. This cream will be removed and the skin properly cleansed again before injecting.
Using a gentle technique, the Juvederm Ultra XC® or Juvederm Ultra Plus XC® gel will be injected into and below the dermis of your skin. When placed in the deeper layers of your skin, Juvederm Ultra XC® and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC® absorbs water adding volume. During your treatment, your provider may gently massage the injection site immediately after treatment to ensure proper placement of the product. We ask that you try to avoid touching the injection site or manipulating the area as much as possible during the first few days following treatment. After 1-2 weeks you will no longer be able to feel the filler within the skin as it incorporates and smooths out to give beautifully natural results.
